- Separate group physical therapy and activities room located in the
Solarium
- Dedicated nursing, physical therapy and occupational therapy staff
- Family, friends and volunteers actively participate as “Coaches”

Enhanced patient education:
- Group discharge class ensures patients and coaches are prepared
to go home
- Hip and knee guidebooks provide education from six weeks before
through three months after surgery
- Daily newsletters will be delivered with breakfast to set
patient expectations for the day’s activities

Patient-centered care:
- Daily patient routine integrates both nursing and physical
therapy plans of care
- One evening the group will participate in a social activity in
the solarium
- Standardized post-op and discharge orders create a more
effective delivery of care

Patient satisfaction:
- The Joint Care Coordinator calls patients at one and two weeks
post-op to conduct a post-op care survey
- Reunion Luncheons are held monthly to seek feedback from
patients and coaches about their experience
- A multidisciplinary Performance Improvement Team meets monthly
to review the program’s performance

A culture of wellness and early mobility:
- Patients will wear their own clothing rather than a hospital
gown
- Patients will spend a portion of their day in a recliner chair
rather than in bed
- Group physical therapy sessions promote camaraderie, friendly
competition and improved outcomes
